  • Strong and secure passwords It is essential that the password should not be short,Use a long sequence of random characters, should be between 8 and 16 characters and include a mixture of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • Create passwords, in such a way that are easy to remember but hard guess by others.
  • Never repeat the same password for different accounts, use a unique password for each of your important accounts.
  • For complexity to add significant value, something like %Tv4$H@.<P.
  • Avoid using password same as username or part of the username or part of mail ID.
  • Avoid using reverse sequence of common information.
  • Slight alterations to the username and password aren’t a good idea either.
  • Don’t just use one word, club two or more words.
  • Be creative, use letters like this, "1" instead of or "3" instead "e" or "9" instead of "p". or Create an acronym using your information, Omit certain letters and use it as a password.
  • Add a bit more randomness or Customize by adding prefix or suffix, if you want use common password for all IDs.

  • Passwords should always be kept private. Never communicate your password to anyone, especially via e-mail or instant text messenger.

PlayStation Network accounts in April 2011. The attackers
had access to credit card information too. Sony took the
service offline for 24 days as a result of the hack.
Evernote (50 million accounts):
The data and note storage service revealed a hacker attack
in March, in which 50 million records (username, email
addresses and encrypted passwords) were compromised.

Gamigo (8.24 million accounts):

German online gaming provider Gamigo was hacked in
February 2012. Email addresses and their passwords
appeared on the web in July 2012 in what is the largest
known password collected with a single hack till date.

LinkedIn (6.5 million accounts):

The business network was hacked in June, and users'
passwords were released on a Russian forum.

Yahoo (450,000 accounts):

The Yahoo Voices passwords published in July 2012 were
unencrypted. Hackers could thus continue to use them
directly to test them out on Yahoo email accounts.

Twitter (250,000 accounts):

In February, shortly after Chinese hacker attacks on large
services like Facebook, Twitter, Apple and the New York
Times came to light, there surfaced log in data records for
250,000 Twitter accounts.
